Terms of Service

Last updated June 17, 2026.

These terms govern your use of Meat Read. Use of the platform is also subject to our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. By creating an account or starting a trial, you agree to all three.

The service

Meat Read is a protein market intelligence platform. We analyze public USDA, NASS, AMS, ERS, and exchange data and present it with our own commentary, derived metrics, and tooling. The service is delivered as a web application.

Your account

Meat Read offers a free tier (yesterday's read, watchlist sync, Sunday newsletter) and a paid subscription (today's read, movers, Price Action, forecasts, full chart history, and the analytics surfaces). Sign-in is passwordless via a one-time magic link sent to your email. You confirm that you are at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction (18 in Quebec) and, if you are signing up on behalf of an organization, that you have authority to bind that organization to these terms.

One account per person. The link in your sign-in email is personal: do not forward it, share access to your email inbox, or use the resulting session to provision access for anyone else. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account, including activity by anyone you let in. We cap concurrent sessions per account at three (signing in on a fourth device will sign you out of the oldest). Repeated or concurrent access from clearly distinct people may result in suspension.

Subscription and billing

  • Pricing: $89/month USD, or $979/year (12th month free). Team plan available from $144/month (2 seats at $72/seat, volume pricing down to $45/seat at 26+ seats), self-serve.
  • Free trial: the first 7 days are free. You can cancel during the trial from your account at any time and you owe nothing. After the trial, billing begins automatically on the 8th day and renews monthly on the same calendar date.
  • Cancellation: you can cancel any time from your account. On cancellation, access continues to the end of the current paid month and the subscription does not renew.
  • Refunds: completed monthly billing periods are non-refundable. Where applicable law (including Quebec consumer protection law) grants you a statutory right of cancellation or refund, that right applies and is not waived by these terms.
  • Failed payments: if a renewal payment fails, we will retry through Stripe and email you. If the payment is not cured within a reasonable time, the subscription is paused.
  • Price changes: we will email you at least 30 days before any price change takes effect. The new price applies on your next renewal unless you cancel before then.
  • Payment is processed by Stripe. We never see your full card number, CVC, or other restricted card data.
  • Taxes (sales tax, GST/HST/QST, VAT) are your responsibility unless we are required by law to collect them, in which case they will be added to your invoice.

What's ours, what's yours

The underlying public data we surface (USDA, NASS, AMS, ERS, exchange feeds) belongs to its publishers. Everything we add on top is owned exclusively by us: our aggregations, derived metrics, signal rankings, charts, written commentary, Today's Read, the briefing, the calendar, the platform code, and the Meat Read name and marks.

While your account or paid subscription is active, you have a personal, revocable, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to access and use the platform for your own internal buying and analysis decisions, or for internal decisions on behalf of the single organisation you represent. The licence does not transfer ownership of any Meat Read content and terminates automatically when your subscription or account ends.

You may share individual Meat Read read-outs (a single chart, a single morning-note paragraph) with a named colleague or counterparty in good faith, provided you credit "Meat Read" and link to meatread.com. You may not, without our prior written consent: (a) republish, syndicate, redistribute, post publicly, or re-license Meat Read content; (b) extract, scrape, mirror, or systematically copy material portions of the service (including via automated agents); (c) use Meat Read content to train, fine-tune, or evaluate a machine learning model; (d) use the service or its outputs to build, market, or operate a product or feature that competes with Meat Read; or (e) sublicense, resell, or otherwise commercially exploit access to the platform. For any use outside the internal-use licence above, contact support@meatread.com to discuss a written licence.

Using the service

Use Meat Read in good faith for the purpose it's offered. We reserve the right to suspend access for use that materially harms the service, the experience for other subscribers, or our ability to keep building.

Informational only, not investment, trading, or procurement advice

Meat Read is decision support, not advice. Every read-out the platform produces (including Today's Read, the daily briefing, the Weekly Meat Read, per-cut commentary, the Price Action, the forecasts surfaces, packer margin estimates, and any future analytical product) is provided for informational purposes only. Nothing on the platform is investment advice, trading advice, procurement advice, hedging advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell, hold, hedge, source, or refuse any commodity, future, contract, or counterparty.

We synthesize public market data and add our read of it. We are not licensed brokers, investment advisers, commodity trading advisers, or registered procurement consultants. Pricing, trading, hedging, sourcing, and counterparty decisions are entirely yours, and you assume sole responsibility for any decision you make using information from the platform. You agree to apply your own judgment, verify against your own sources of truth, and accept the full consequences of any action you take.

Data accuracy

We use commercially reasonable efforts to surface data accurately and on time. USDA publishes their reports on their schedule, not ours, and their numbers occasionally get revised. We pass through what we receive. We do not warrant that any specific data point will be available at any specific time, and we will not be liable for trades you place on the basis of a number that turns out to be late, revised, or wrong.

We also do not warrant that our own aggregations, derived metrics (margins, spreads, seasonality bands, signal rankings, forecast values), or written commentary are error-free. The platform synthesizes public data and adds our read of it, and neither the underlying code nor the analysis layered on top is warranted to be free of errors, omissions, or bugs. You are responsible for sanity-checking any number that materially drives a buying decision against your own source of truth before acting on it.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE PLATFORM, ITS DATA, ANALYTICS, COMMENTARY, AND ALL OUTPUTS ARE PROVIDED STRICTLY ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, FRESHNESS, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND QUIET ENJOYMENT. Data is sourced from third-party publishers (USDA AMS, NASS, ERS, futures exchanges, currency feeds, news vendors) whose schedules, methodologies, and revisions are outside our control, and any of which may be late, revised, withdrawn, or wrong.

Service availability

We aim for reliable uptime but do not guarantee any specific service level. The platform may be unavailable due to maintenance, upstream USDA outages, third-party infrastructure issues, or events beyond our reasonable control. We will not be liable for losses tied to a temporary outage.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to your use of the service (including the informational outputs of Today's Read, the briefing, the Weekly Meat Read, per-cut commentary, Price Action, movers, forecasts, and packer margin) is capped at the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid us in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100). The CAD $100 floor exists so that users on the free tier, who have paid us nothing, still have a defined, non-zero limit rather than a clause a court may decline to enforce.

We will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or lost-profits damages, or for any loss of data, goodwill, business opportunity, procurement cost, hedging cost, contract cost, or lost margin tied to a buying, selling, sourcing, or hedging decision, even if we were advised of the possibility. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations of liability; in those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Meat Read and its operators from and against any third-party claim arising out of (a) your breach of these terms, (b) your misuse of the platform or its outputs, or (c) your infringement of any third-party right through your use of the service. We will give you prompt notice of any such claim and let you control the defense at your expense, with our reasonable cooperation.

Termination

You can cancel your subscription any time from your account. We may terminate or suspend your access if you breach these terms, if your payment fails and is not cured within a reasonable time, or if we discontinue the service. If we terminate without cause because we are discontinuing the service, we may refund the unused portion of the current billing month at our discretion. On termination, your license under these terms ends immediately; sections that by their nature should survive (intellectual property, data accuracy disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law, general) survive.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted here and emailed to your account at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree to the change, you may cancel your subscription before the effective date and we will not bill you for the period after it. Continued use after the effective date counts as acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law and dispute resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec, Canada and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Informal resolution first. Before filing any claim, you agree to first contact us at support@meatread.com and attempt to resolve the matter in good faith for at least thirty (30) days. Most disputes can be resolved this way.

Binding arbitration. If the dispute is not resolved within that informal window, you and we agree that any remaining dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of the service will be finally resolved by binding arbitration administered in Montréal, Quebec, under the ADR Institute of Canada's National Arbitration Rules, by a single arbitrator, conducted in English (subject to the Québec language section below). The arbitrator's award is final and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction. Each party bears its own costs unless the arbitrator decides otherwise.

Carve-outs. (a) Either party may bring a claim in small-claims court for a dispute that falls within that court's monetary and subject-matter jurisdiction. (b) Either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to protect intellectual property rights or stop misuse of the service. (c) Nothing in this section limits a consumer's statutory right (including under Quebec consumer protection law, PIPEDA, or equivalent legislation in the consumer's home jurisdiction) to file before a tribunal, regulator, or court in the consumer's home jurisdiction where that right cannot be waived by contract.

Class action waiver. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you and we each waive any right to participate as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, consolidated, or representative action or arbitration. The arbitrator may not consolidate the claims of more than one party and may not preside over any form of representative or class proceeding.

Québec. Langue / language

The parties have expressly required that these terms and all related documents be drawn up in English. Les parties ont expressément exigé que les présentes conditions et tous les documents qui s'y rattachent soient rédigés en anglais.

Residents of Quebec may request a French-language version of these terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Cookie Policy by emailing support@meatread.com. We will provide a French version within a reasonable time and at no cost. Les résidents du Québec peuvent demander une version française des présentes conditions, de la politique de confidentialité et de la politique de témoins en écrivant à support@meatread.com. Une version française sera fournie gratuitement dans un délai raisonnable.

General

These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the service, and supersede any prior agreements on the same subject. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later. You may not assign these terms without our written consent; we may assign them in connection with a corporate transaction (merger, acquisition, sale of assets). Neither party is liable for delay or failure to perform caused by events beyond reasonable control (natural disaster, war, government action, internet/infrastructure outage). Where permitted by law, you and we each waive any right to participate in a class or representative action against the other.
