About us

What MeatRead is and who it's for.

What it is

MeatRead is a protein market intelligence platform built for buyers tracking US wholesale beef and pork. Our analysis engine synthesizes wholesale price reporting, slaughter and supply fundamentals, trade flows, and macro signals into a single buyer-voice read of the day: what's expensive, what's cheap, where supply is tightening, and what to do about it.

Who it's for

Protein buyers, importers, distributors, and category managers who price US wholesale daily and need a faster read than parsing raw market reports. Built specifically for North American sourcing, including Canadian importers running on USD reference prices.

Methodology

  • Cutout values reflect the official daily Choice and Select boxed-beef cutout, surfaced and contextualized with a 5-year seasonal benchmark.
  • Year-over-year always means same calendar week vs same calendar week 12 months prior. Not a 12-month trailing average.
  • Seasonal baseline is a 5-year mean of the same calendar week, recomputed weekly.
  • Carcass weights are reconciled across multiple government slaughter series so the headline reflects the comprehensive fed-cattle average rather than any single sub-segment.
  • Currency defaults to ยข/lb USD with one-click switching to $/kg USD, $/kg CAD, and โ‚ฌ/kg.

Data

MeatRead's analysis layer draws on U.S. government meat market reporting (USDA AMS, NASS, ERS), Canadian trade authorities, and live exchange feeds. We may rely on additional sources as the platform expands.
