Friday's read

June 26, 2026

Friday's read below. Subscribers get every trading day's read live, full price history, supply desk pipeline, and more.

Choice cutout shed another $2.62/cwt at last close, but it's the lean grind lane holding the real tension. Fresh 73% chemical lean at 339¢/lb hasn't moved in days, pinned by a cow supply pipeline that's been running well short of year-ago levels for weeks. That tightness isn't easing. Meanwhile, the loin complex is finishing its unwind: bottom sirloin flap dropped another 148¢/lb on the session and outside skirt shed 138¢/lb, both cuts clearing out post-Father's Day demand with seasonal history pointing to further softness over the next four weeks. Chuck short rib at 527¢/lb is the divergent read. It's down on the month but history adds roughly 20¢/lb from this point in late June. Cattle on Feed prints this afternoon, and fresh placement data will either deepen or soften the forward supply case that's kept grind from following the cutout down.

Point it at any cut. Get the read back.

Pull up any beef or pork cut and Meat Read reads the chart the way a desk veteran would. What the trend is doing, where the seasonal pressure sits, and what the forecast horizon (13, 26, or 52 weeks) projects. Now point it at the Choice, Select, or pork cutout index itself, with volume and seasonal overlaid. Not a dashboard you have to interpret. A read you can act on.

Brisket pulled C$14.78/kg on thin volume. Trim cuts firmed across the complex; deli demand is the mechanic, not export.
Brisket sits 25% above the 5-year seasonal norm. The recent floor was C$13.95/kg. That's the level to watch if today's print breaks. Toggle the chart's forecast overlay on for the projected band.

Built by a buyer

We built this because nothing else was built for us.

The institutional platforms work. They also cost $20,000 to $50,000 a year and were written for the salesforce that sold them to you, not the buyer doing the procurement.

Meat Read covers the same ground. Cutout, kill, packer margin, retail features, quota fill, cold storage, trade flow, forecasts. The daily read says what the numbers mean in the language a senior trader would actually use on the phone.

$89 a month. The Sunday note stays free. No analysts, no salesforce, no contracts. Built by someone who reaches for this stuff every morning too.
