Three of every ten beef pounds that cleared today were the middles, 1.8x the usual share. Pork 1/4 trim butt combo broke its run higher and closed down. The Choice/Select spread narrowed $4.20 to $19.70/cwt, so trading down to Select saves less. Bone-in sirloin has closed lower six days in a row. Cattle kill 510,000 head for the week, 8% under a year ago; hogs 2.42 million, flat with a year ago. Friday's weekly chicken report: boneless skinless thigh meat has added 13% over 4 weeks without a single lower close.
