That move reflects the same packer-side logic showing up across the whole carcass: kills trimmed, less supply coming, and the lean complex catching the tightening first. Bottom gooseneck at 393¢/lb, adding 9¢/lb today, confirms the rounds lane is quietly firming too, even with export softness keeping some pressure off inside cuts. The middle meats tell a different story. Sirloin flap shed 119¢/lb today and short plate short rib dropped 90¢/lb, both sitting on seasonal forwards that are essentially flat; the bid pulling back there isn't seasonal, it's a demand-side vacuum. That split, trim and ends running 37 percentage points richer than middles on a week-over-week basis, is the carcass pricing its own supply picture: tight cattle, heavier weights offsetting some of the kill loss, but nothing cheap enough in the middle to generate a broad buying program before summer grilling demand clarifies further.
