Today's read
Pork carcass firming to a heavy-loads print while the beef cutout eases on thin volume is the clearest divergence this market has shown in weeks. That's not a substitution story for a buyer with fixed specs, but it does tell you where retailer feature dollars are chasing margin right now, and that pull toward pork loosens some of the domestic demand pressure on beef middles. Tenderloin at 1448¢/lb gave back 99¢/lb in a single session, and seasonal history points another 36¢/lb lower over the next four weeks, so the loin end is drifting with the current, not fighting it. The lean trim side is a different carcass entirely. Fresh 50CL jumped 14¢/lb today and history carries it 26¢/lb higher from here into the coming weeks, with the cow kill tight and the frozen buffer drawn down. Top inside denuded at 480¢/lb is holding its weekly gain despite today's softness, and with export demand for rounds described as weakening, the domestic channel is the bid now.
